[Ginger]

April 06 – Scientists initial studies show that Ginger may help to fight Ovarian Cancer.  The spice already is known to ease nausea and control inflammation, but the findings by a team from the University of Michigan showed Ginger kills cancer cells.  They found it caused the cells to die in all the tests.  But the researchers said it was the way in which the cells died which was particuarly promising.  The tests showed two types of cell death -apoptosis, which is cell suicide, and autophagy, a kind of self digestion. Apoptosis is often associated with cancer which becomes resistant to standard chemotherapy but the ginger caused autophagic cell death.
